Overview
Though our panelists rank the Cholla course as the second best at We-Ko-Pa, it's in the top-10 among public courses in golf-rich Arizona—making it a must-play. The Scott Miller design—located at the We-Ko-Pa Casino Resort, a 2022 Golf Digest Editors' Choice winner for resorts—winds through the arroyos and ridges of the Sonoran Desert. Split fairways, stacked stone riverbeds and 30-foot tall cacti in play give this hidden gem its character.

“Pretty good golf, but falls short of the Saguaro course. This one has a few more tricked up holes like #8 (where do you hit your approach?), and you can get into a lot more trouble here. Conditioning is very good, and value is great."

“Stacked stone riverbeds at #3, 5, 8, 9 and 18 add aesthetic strength. Risk/reward holes at #1,2, 6-10 and 15-18 are outstanding including split fairways (at #9 10), 30' tall cactuses in play (#2, 7, 10, 13 and 16) and an old wooden fence line on the short par four 15th warning players of the impending 100' canyon drop off. Fairways a little moist and greens a bit furry/inconsistent. Stone framed walkways to greens and tee boxes along with cul-de-sac cactus landscaping on almost every hole."

“Fun desert golf course with a couple of driveable par 4's and reachable par 5's. Slow play can be a downer out here so be prepared. The best 36 public holes in the Phoenix area. The Saguaro course is better but this isn't a bad 2nd 18 and definitely worth a round."

“Challenging desert course. More traditional than adjoining Coore and Crenshaw course. High green fees and slow play are downers, but it is an enjoyable test of golf."

“A very nice course and in good condition when I played it. Well laid out with a lot of very good and challenging holes requiring good shots to keep your ball in play and your score low. I like this course and will play it again."

“Great conditioning. One of my favorite facilities in the greater Phoenix area."

“The weaker of the two layouts on the property. A lot more target-orientated golf and elevation changes. But, great conditioning and a few holes where length really pays off."

“This is the sister to the Saguaro course. It is not same quality but is a fine complement to its more famous sister. It has a very nice practice facility but the clubhouse leaves a little to be desired."

“Nice AZ desert golf course. One nice thing is that it is outside of Scottsdale on Indian Reservation so NO HOUSES border the golf course. Course is in excellent condition for a public golf course. There are deals for online booking. Nice practice facilities and nice restaurants."
