TaylorMade
Stealth 2 Plus
Our Review:
WHAT IT DOES: This is TaylorMade’s fourth generation of compact titanium fairway woods, and each time these clubs find another gear. Whether it’s a stronger, faster titanium alloy in the face or a huge weight pad that lowers the center of gravity, TaylorMade makes the case that titanium can do for a fairway wood what it has been doing for drivers. TaylorMade’s designers took that weight pad and made it adjustable in a way that would make Tony Stark jealous. The steel weight slides backward and forward (basically into a garage), letting players tweak launch and spin preferences. This is all accomplished without negatively affecting turf interaction.
WHY WE LIKE IT: If there was a problem with the first versions of TaylorMade’s titanium fairway woods, it was that they tended to be designed for better players because of their compact size and low-forward (and less forgiving) center-of-gravity position. The new movable weight pad is an effective way to dial in spin preferences, but it also makes this fairway wood 20 percent more forgiving when the weight slides all the way to the back—all without having to make the head larger and harder to hit off the ground. Description
Stealth 2 Plus, Stealth 2 and Stealth 2 HD fairway woods feature technological breakthroughs that make each club a cheat code. The flagship model of the line is Stealth 2 Plus fairway, which features a heavy 50g sliding weight on the sole creating three different fairway woods in one. The middle setting is the most versatile for optimal playability off the deck or off the tee with mid launch, mid spin and consistently powerful distance. Shifting it to the front reduces spin and creates a piercing trajectory for added distance off the tee. Positioning the Stealth 2 Plus sliding weight all the way back is the most forgiving setting. It adds spin and increases MOI for enhanced performance on off-center strikes. The Stealth 2 fairway wood features a slightly lower profile 3D carbon crown that pushes CG down and pulls mass away from the high toe area, allowing more weight to be positioned rearward for optimal forgiveness and maximum playability. The all-new Stealth 2 HD, engineered to maximize forgiveness and deliver easy playability for golfers at every level. A larger, low-profile sole helps the club hug the ground at address and makes it easier to achieve a high launch, while internal weighting encourages a draw-bias ball flight.
