PGA West: Pete Dye Mountain

Overview
This esteemed Pete Dye design weaves in and out of the picturesque Santa Rosa Mountains, which provide ample elevation changes and stunning visuals. The signature 16th hole—a downhill par 3 played to a trademark island green—is practically cut out of the mountainside.

“Desert resort course located at the base of the Santa Rosa mountains. Fairly typical Pete Dye design with wide expansive fairways playing into elevated greens in some cases 10-12 feet above the fairway. On date played course conditioning was fair and turf conditions were inconsistent. Greens were firm yet hampered by numerous old and unrepaired ball marks. Course was relatively flat with several man-made elevated tees creating some elevation changes. Water impacted four holes on the front with the desert hills impacting a similar number of holes on the back. Accuracy off tee important to ensure effective approach shots to score."

“Resort course that plays slow if large recreational groups are on the course. Design and aesthetics are very memorable. Winter condition is below the summer conditioning"

“This resort and the Mountain course are in real need of a refresh, especially the front nine of the Mountain course which is a bit on the shaggy side with unattractive bunkering and a journey around the driving range. At least they are working on the back nine now."

“Varied mix of holes. The 16th hole highlights a good back 9."

“Scenic Pete Dye course with some nice elevation changes. The PGA West restaurant at the clubhouse is a cool spot for drinks after the round, with great views of the mountains."
