Palmetto Dunes Resort: Arthur Hills
Hilton Head Island, SC • Public

Overview
When the Arthur Hills course at Palmetto Dunes Resort opened in the mid-1980s, there was no rough. Instead, the holes were protected by the natural mounding and contouring of the landing areas. They have since added rough, but with less than 20 bunkers in play on the entire course, the prominent mounding remains the distinctive feature. Live oaks frame many of the landing areas, which are occasionally quite narrow and semi-blind from the tees. The course is one of three layouts at this Hilton Head Island resort.

“The course's mounding and geometrical shapes is something you never come across and very unique. I originally thought that there was a lot of earth movement for this golf course helping to protect holes like the 1st. It had a very quirky holes but overall it was a fun beach vacation golf course."

“Nice resort course. Mediocre shape with the fairways soft and not firm. Green shapes were interesting."

“Enjoyable public course on Hilton Head. The front 9 is pretty open with the large live Oaks weaving in and out of play. Back 9 is a little tougher with more forced carries and water coming into play. All in all, worth a visit if on Hilton Head."

“Good layout with challenging holes but condition was not good. Not worth the money they charge and was there in May. Held NCAA Championship there so can be set up tough for scoring. Not as good as it used to be!"

“Not a bad place to play the game but the course would be better if they widened the landing areas and raised every tee about five feet. Too many blind or partially-blind shots for my taste."
