Golf's Best Halfway Houses

No expense is spared in providing golfers at the exclusive Summit Club in Las Vegas a tasty and luxurious break from their round. Iona Stephen visits to see what its halfway house experience is really like.

Iona Stephen takes us inside one of golf's best halfway houses, the clifftop bar at Quivira Golf Club in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico. Perched almost three hundred feet above the Pacific Ocean, it's the perfect escape at this Nicklaus designed course.

Dating back to 1877, "The Bothy" at Nairn Golf Club has become the perfect escape midway round one of Scotland's best links courses.

Known more for the Old Course than the Old Halfway House, some believe St Andrews is home to the oldest halfway house, or rather cart, in golf. In this episode, we travel back in time to learn about its story and why it came to exist.

Pirin Country Club is home to a Championship golf course designed by Ian Woosnam with a unique Halfway House. Overlooked by the soaring 3000 metre peak of Pirin mountain, this traditional wood and stone cabin is right in the heart of the golf complex, with chipping, putting and practice range right outside the front door. A traditional Balkan barbecue and select local dishes make this stop-off very difficult to move on from, as Iona Stephen discovered.

Set deep in the Ponderosa pines behind the 9th green is a 1940s train carriage known as Morrish Station. Named after the course designer, this unique halfway house connects the course with the Flagstaff area and its historic railroad past.

Built in 1903, the historic halfway hut at Sunningdale Golf Club is famous for its hospitality, dogs and sausages. We visit it with honorary member Sam Torrance to experience it for ourselves.
