Barefoot Resort & Golf: Love Course
North Myrtle Beach, SC • Public
Overview
A member of Golf Digest's 100 Greatest Public ranking from 2003 to 2007, the Love course is one of the best in Myrtle Beach and yet ranked as the third-best at golf-rich Barefoot Resort (just a few tenths of a point behind the Fazio course, according to our panelists). This is Love Golf Design's only work in Myrtle Beach, and it makes good use of the land with a good variety of holes—long, short and doglegs in each direction.

“I like this links-style course. It played exceptionally well, even in 40-degree, windy, mid-February weather following a day of rain. The Love course is more-than-forgiving from its teeing grounds. Players can stray without having their day ruined thanks to generous bail-out areas that almost predict their misses. The greens will challenge average players. Case in point, the par-4,16th. A bunker divides a split fairway. If a player slices right, he will still find his ball, but will face a green-side bunker to carry on his uphill approach. It is one of several holes that force a player to think and execute how he or she wants to plot a route. The course sends that message from the first shot. Among par 5's, the 480-yard 13th sticks most in my mind. It’s wide off the tee but dangerous along the right side. That's not a traditional par 5, but it was interesting and a very good, navigational challenge. The large resort handles players on multiple courses and yet manages to remember who goes where. The range bus driver made certain to retrieve me before playing. Most impressive."
