Bravest golfer in the world tees off as two snakes fight (or worse?) next to him

We’re nearing the end of 2023, which means it’s time for awards and year-end lists. This is certainly a late entry into the much-ballyhooed distinction for Bravest Golfer of the Year. It’s one thing to encounter a snake on the course; it’s another to see two snakes battling it out (or perhaps something more NSFW) and still picking up that driver.

Yes, that’s a golfer at a Brisbane course having to make do with two snakes either fighting or getting it on. To be honest, we’re not sure which is more distracting. The serpents have been identified as coastal carpet pythons, which don’t have fangs or venom, but are known for their “100 small, sharp teeth which have the ability to cause substantial needle-like lacerations.” No matter what, they use constriction to kill their prey, so perhaps stay away. Just in case.

Some in the comments fought against the initial assumption that they were fighting and instead thought they were having a dang good time in the sun, but one expert pointed out that it looks to be two male pythons duking it out for a female snake’s attention.

Australia has around 140 species of land snakes, according to the New South Wales Environment and Heritage Group, so that’s definitely something to keep an eye out for if setting up tee times in Australia.

Perhaps you can make the trip and become next year’s Bravest Golfer of the Year. Have fun! We’re just fine handing out the award. Thank you very much.
